When it comes to guys and weddings, there is definitely an under-fulfilled niche in the market. Whatever the reason for the industry miss, I can tell you from a wedding pro POV there is a growing trend of groom involvement in the wedding planning experience. In short, we are seeing a swift exit of the traditional groom with the “tell me where to be and what to wear” attitude in favor of the highly involved groom who has opinions on everything from the venue choice to the wedding dance songs. (And, of course, this counts double if you’re planning a “Mr. and Mr.” union.)
Last year when my husband and I were planning our own wedding, among all of the other planning tasks, finding gift items for the groomsmen was a beast. Most of what we found lacked in quality and uniqueness or sported a premium price tag. About the time I found myself in the back hallway of a local cigar shop with my (then, soon-to-be) husband getting very, very light-headed on cigar smoke and sifting through empty cigar boxes, I was ready to call it quits on the groomsman gifts. Suffice it to say, I would have been excited to find this company long before now.
Let’s be honest, it’s not just finding the source, it’s knowing the products are going to be good. So, today, we are taking a look at a couple of the products available from Groomsday.com. For transparency purposes, please note, we do NOT receive any compensation for this review or your purchase of their products. This is our honest opinion of the products and the company.
Without further ado, here’s the skinny…
What we LOVE:
1. Quality & Options – The company offers a variety of very “giftable” guy gift options to match the theme and budget of any couple. The company’s tag line is “Gifting on Auto Pilot” and that hits pretty close to the mark. A quick browse of the product list includes: watches, canvas duffle bags, flasks, footballs, knives, etc. Each of the products we received (in this case, the wooden box, the flask, and the socks) were all great quality.
2. Customizable – We ordered the Create Your Own Groomsman Gift Set which by name alone indicates it’s “custom” option. Prices for the “Create Your Own” option range from $39-$99 depending on what items you want to include in your gift box. You choose.
Which brings us to the next point…
3. Personalization – The box, the flask, the socks, the watches…everything has the option of personalization…for FREE. Who doesn’t love FREE personalization? And, the quality of the personalization was on point.
4. Cost – Prices on the Groomsday.com products range from $39 to $99 which – in my opinion – is very reasonable. For the more budget-minded shoppers, they also boast a menu of “$20 and Under” options.
4. Giftability – (Yes, we know this isn’t a real word.) We are asking and answering the question if the products are desirable (not just suitable) as a groomsman gift. Are your dudes going to appreciate the gifts? We vote “yes”.
5. Customer Care – Their entire team was friendly and helpful at each step of the process. There were a few back and forth emails about the personalization, but honestly, the Groomsday.com team made the experience top notch.
6. Shipping – It’s Free for purchases over $69 and relatively quick. Once our personalization choices were verified, the items arrived within a week. (Please note: the recommendation on the site is to purchase your items 2-3 weeks ahead of any event date.)
What we DON’T love:
Your Work is NOT Quite Done – You will have to do a bit to “doll up” the gifts prior to gifting. For the purpose of shipping, the box was wrapped in a hefty bubble wrap (#thumbsup) but once opened there was one sad little piece of tissue paper and the flask was in a plain white box and wrapped in plastic. I suppose this is “to be expected” but it’s also where the “auto-pilot” gifting falls a bit short.
In the end, we hope this product review will save our readers from a cigar-high headache (nothing against cigars, of course) and simplify one of the many wedding planning tasks on the list.
Where did you purchase your groomsmen gifts?
