Mother Nature has certainly been marching to the tune of a pretty schizophrenic drum lately. Although wintery weather is a regular occurrence in much of the rest of the country, it is not something we are equipped for in “the South” – as evidenced by the post-armageddon images on the nightly news.
Here’s the thing to understand about weather (the “X” factor) when you are planning a milestone event…like your wedding day. You cannot control it. This may seem terribly obvious, but when it comes to planning a big event, you cannot force your will on the “big-man-upstairs”. Our advice is simple. 1. Think through some alternative weather options before the big day (read: don’t hide your head in the sand) 2. Make a plan of action and be willing to make some compromises (this is not the universe “out to sabotage you plans”) 3. Don’t freak out (again, you cannot control it.) 4. Enjoy your day! (no matter what the weather does.)
Last Tuesday, Feb. 11th 2014, we hosted the “official” Grand Opening of our 2nd venue, Bakery 105. For those of you who don’t know the history of that date…it was exactly four years to the day after our “official” Grand Opening of 128 South (Feb. 11th 2010). The Wilmington locals would agree the weather on our “big day” was entirely uncooperative. A blustery wind and rain changed to sleet in the early evening and by Midnight, sleet had covered every surface that stood still. What would you have done? We…opted to proceed as planned. The Mayor and some of the City Council members joined us for the ribbon-cutting. And, a representative from wdi acted as emcee for the ceremony. The opening featured a fresh inspired lounge design by Design Perfection. (Jeff Bryant of Design Perfection is one very talented and visionary designer local to the Wilmington area.) Along with the talents of Design Perfection, a collection of some of Wilmington’s best event professionals and creatives came together (in the freezing rain) to make our Bakery 105 Grand Opening a success! As always, we have included some eye-candy for your viewing pleasure courtesy of Matt McGraw Photography.
