Today’s post is about one of the “less fun” wedding planning topics (certainly, one that doesn’t get a lot of play on the Pinterest boards or latest bridal mag)…wedding/event insurance. Do you need it?
Given our particular location tucked between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean in coastal Wilmington NC, we are most often subject to the weather…specifically (eeekk) hurricanes. With Hurricanes Joaquin and Patricia (thankfully) in the rear-view mirror and the current hurricane season coming to a close, we are gently reminded that Mother Nature is an unpredictable old gal. For those of us in the Eastern US, the storm tracker projections for Joaquin looked like the handiwork of a classroom full of kindergartners with a box of magic markers.
The investment in wedding insurance is not merely for weather related issues. The policies can cover a myriad of “x” factors that are often out of everyone’s control on the big day. We have witnessed firsthand a few of those unexpected events. A few years back, we had to postpone a wedding because the bride, groom, and their families could not travel due to snowstorm in their hometown…not in Wilmington. And, what would you do if the airline lost the dress? Or if the limo company went out of business? This kind of coverage can often be added to existing insurance policies. Providers like Nationwide and Progressive offer similar coverage options to Travelers making this easily accessible.
So, back to the original question…do you need wedding insurance? It’s a question only you can answer…but, really, would it hurt to have that little extra piece of mind? We don’t think so.
